Who's on my radar...

If you aren't performing on talk shows and you call yourself an artist, you're missing out on a massive market. I don't listen to the radio so the only way that I hear about new music is by word of mouth, iTunes, award shows and talk shows. Had it not been for Oprah,I never would have purchased James Blunt's Back to Bedlam CD.

  1. Last week, Jay Sean was on the Wendy Williams show and performed a compilation of his top songs. I had no idea who he was but I recognized the song, "Down".

He told Wendy that he left med school to pursue this career in music. Had he stayed in the medical field I'm sure someone would have been calling him Dr. McDreamy because he's a looker. He is of Indian decent by way of Britain. As with most British artists, I didn't really hear an accent until he began speaking. I could listen to him speak all day. He's got sex appeal.

Cute kid. I don't think he's got staying power but I like his single and wish him well.

  2. Slightly Stoopid was on the Jimmy Kimmel show last week singing 2am. Great performance! I so love that song. It's one of my 25 most played songs on iTunes. They have an island vibe to their songs so listening to them takes me back to a very happy place. No further details on that. Itunes has them listed as Rock but I changed the genre from Rock to Reggae in my playlist cause I just think it fits better there.

  3. I was really behind schedule with my DVR and just saw the Oprah episode featuring Lady Gaga who prefers to be called Gaga.

Something was very weird about this performance and not the normal Gaga weird but it seemed like things weren't really going as planned. The left side of her outfit kept slipping off her shoulder and she repeatedly tugged on it to pull it up. That was distracting but knowing Gaga, she was probably trying to make a point and I missed it. Another thing was when she was standing on the car and trying to break the window with a ball and chain. The window wouldn't break and I still can't tell if that was intentional.

Nevertheless, it was great to see her sit down and chat with O. She revealed that she had somewhat of a privileged background and went to school with Paris Hilton. She got a little emotional when she talked about how misunderstood she is and how she doesn't have many celebrity friends, rather her friends are her fans.

In my humble opinion, Gaga will be around for a while.

  4. Rihanna performed on the Ellen Show yesterday. I had no idea how tall she was until I saw her next to Ellen! Wow. Anyway she performed Don't Stop the Music and Hard. She went out in to the audience and danced with the crowd, got a kiss on the cheek from an older guest, and was playfully flirty. It was fun to watch. She seemed to be in a really good place.

When asked if she really said that she wanted to be in love by the age of thirty-one she denied having said that but admitted that she better be in love by then because that's ten years away.

They took a trip down memory lane when Ellen showed clips of Rihanna's first visit to the show back in 2005. Rihanna admitted that she doesn't know how many hits she's had since then and I can't tell if she is being modest or if she really doesn't know.

Rihanna showed off her thirteenth tattoo on her chest which reads, "never a failure, always a lesson." She says that it means that it's ok to make a mistake; just don't make it twice.

Ellen asked if Rihanna was single and Rihanna responded with, "N-No, I'm single." Then Ellen said, "What about that guy we keep seeing you with?" They flashed a photo of Rihanna with Matt Kemp at a ball game. Rihanna dodged the question with a playful laugh. I'm not buying that but I understand.

Rihanna is looking good, sounding good and moving on with her life. Onward and upward.

Oh and ftr, it's pronounced Re-ann-ah, not Re-aahh-na.

  5. Corinne Bailey Rae appeared on Ellen's show on 1/28 to promote her new cd, The Sea. It's been too long since we've heard from her and she has been missed. She sounds really good and it sounds like she's grown vocally since her last album.

We haven't seen her since the untimely passing of her husband. I notice that she's wearing her wedding band though.

I wish she had gotten some couch time though. I would like to have seen her chat with Ellen about what she's been up to lately.

It's good to see her back on the scene!

  6. When did the Jonas Brothers become Nick Jonas and the Administration? Maybe I’m a little out of the tween loop but this kid might be alright. I’m not rushing to iTunes to look up his song, “Who I Am”, but I can understand why he’s on the Ellen show today. He’s a big deal.

Breaking news: Nick has confirmed that the Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up, this is just a side project that he’s blessed to have the opportunity to do. Whew, that was close.

  7. The Bravery is performing their song, Slow Poison on Jimmy Kimmel right now. I'm surprised that the audience is so still because the song is very high energy. I gotta tell ya, it's not something that I'd normally buy but it was entertaining. Not enough to go to the iTunes store but enough to watch the whole performance.

They're out promoting their new album, Stir the Blood. These guys have been around for quite some time but we haven't crossed paths until tonight. Thanks Jimmy!

  8. Tony award winning Broadway singer Lea Salonga performed Elton John’s “Your Song” today on the Wendy Williams Show. Lea’s voice is recognizable to many as the songstress behind Princess Jasmine in the Disney classic, Aladdin.

Lea performed as if she were behind the scenes of an animated movie. She didn’t move during the entire song and her eyes were closed a bit longer than they should have been if she wanted to connect with the audience. While Lea may have a stunning voice behind animated characters such as Mulan or Princess Jasmine, the success behind the scenes does not translate to the stage. Broadway performances are not the same as concerts. The difference is a performance to the audience rather than for the audience. This was not a performance to the audience. It did not inspire me to look her up on iTunes.
